Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
