Research Reveals More Than Four-Fifths of Alternative Healing Publications on Online Marketplace Likely Authored by AI

An extensive analysis has revealed that automatically produced material has infiltrated the herbalism publication section on the e-commerce giant, including products promoting gingko "memory-boost tinctures", digestive aid fennel preparations, and immune-support citrus supplements.

Disturbing Findings from Content Analysis Investigation

Based on scanning numerous titles made available in the platform's herbal remedies category between January and September of this year, investigators determined that the vast majority seemed to be written by automated systems.

"This constitutes a damning exposure of the sheer scope of unmarked, unverified, unregulated, likely AI content that has completely invaded Amazon's ecosystem," commented the study's lead researcher.

Specialist Apprehensions About Artificially Produced Wellness Advice

"There's a substantial volume of herbal research circulating currently that's entirely unreliable," commented a professional herbal practitioner. "Automated systems cannot discern how to sift through all the dross, all the garbage, that's of absolutely no consequence. It might direct users incorrectly."

Case Study: Bestselling Book Being Questioned

One of the ostensibly AI-written publications, Natural Healing Handbook, currently maintains the No 1 bestseller in Amazon's dermatology, aromatherapy and alternative therapies categories. The book's opening markets the publication as "a guide for individual assurance", encouraging readers to "focus internally" for answers.

Doubtful Writer Identity

The author is identified as an unverified writer, whose Amazon page describes this individual as a "thirty-five year old natural medicine practitioner from the seaside community of a popular Australian destination" and creator of the enterprise a herbal product line. However, no trace of this individual, the brand, or associated entities appear to have any internet existence apart from the platform listing for the title.

Detecting Artificially Produced Text

Investigation identified multiple indicators that point to likely AI-generated natural medicine text, featuring:

  • Liberal employment of the plant symbol
  • Plant-related creator pseudonyms like Rose, Plant references, and Clove
  • Mentions to disputed alternative healers who have advocated unsupported cures for serious conditions

Larger Pattern of Unchecked AI Content

These books constitute a larger trend of unchecked AI content being sold on the platform. Last year, wild mushroom collectors were warned to bypass foraging books sold on the site, ostensibly authored by chatbots and containing unreliable advice on identifying deadly fungi from safe types.

Requests for Oversight and Identification

Industry officials have urged the platform to begin identifying artificially created content. "Every publication that is entirely AI-generated should be labeled as such and automated garbage must be eliminated as an urgent priority."

Reacting, the platform commented: "We have publication standards controlling which books can be displayed for purchase, and we have preventive and responsive methods that assist in identifying text that breaches our standards, regardless of whether artificially created or different. We commit substantial time and resources to guarantee our requirements are complied with, and eliminate publications that fail to comply to those requirements."
