Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
